Carolyn has worked for twenty-five years in the field of health and wellbeing, she is a trained Counsellor and Art Therapist, receiving her MA. In 2013. Creativity is at the heart of her therapeutic practice; through diverse mediums such as painting, writing, weaving, sculpting and collaborative conversations, Carolyn understands the power of creativity to connect, explore, inspire, and heal.
Carolyn has worked with women and children from culturally diverse backgrounds, recovering from family violence and trauma, with people experiencing complex mental health issues and anxiety disorders. She has worked with children from diverse backgrounds and developed arts- based programs with teenagers, exploring topics important to their emerging sense of self.
Through experience she has developed a deep respect for our individual differences while also understanding that our need for connection, safety, dignity, respect, and connection to something greater is common to us all. Carolyn’s holistic approach to group and individual sessions focuses on what is meaningful in people’s lives’; centring on building skills and identifying practical steps towards creating change. Her work is informed by arts- based psychotherapy, mindfulness, ACT, trauma -informed practices, her approach is body and person centred. She is also interested in placing personal stories in a broader social and cultural context to facilitate understanding.
