Occupational Therapy is a branch of allied health that helps people of all ages who have physical, sensory, or cognitive problems. OT aims to help people either gain or regain independence in all areas of their lives.

Occupational therapists help with barriers that affect a person's emotional, social, and physical needs. To do this, they use everyday activities, exercises, and other specialised therapy techniques.

How can Occupational Therapy help?

Occupational therapy at Eastern Therapy Hub helps with:

  • fine motor skills (small-muscle movements made with the hands, fingers, and toes, such as grasping)

  • visual-perceptual skills

  • cognitive (thinking) skills

  • sensory-processing problems

An OT might work on skills like:

  • Developing fine motor skills for grasping and releasing toys, developing good handwriting or computer skills.

  • Improving eye–hand coordination for play and academics.

  • Improving and mastering basic life skills such as bathing, getting dressed, brushing teeth, and feeding.

  • Learning positive behaviours and social skills by practicing management of frustration and anger.

  • Sourcing special equipment to help build independence. This may include wheelchairs, splints, bathing equipment, dressing devices, and communication aids.

Who can benefit from Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy helps children and adolescents with their play skills, improves their school performance, and aids their daily activities.

OTs also work with adults to improve their functional capacity for daily activities, boost self-confidence and promote a sense of accomplishment.

Occupational Therapy at Eastern Therapy Hub can help children, teens and adults who have:

  • birth injuries or birth defects

  • sensory processing disorders

  • traumatic injuries to the brain or spinal cord
