Allied Health Assistant (AHA) Services

At Eastern Therapy Hub, we offer a range of services provided by our skilled Allied Health Assistants (AHAs). AHAs are trained professionals who have completed a Certificate IV from a recognised institution or are currently studying to become a qualified allied health professional - e.g. Speech Pathologist or Occupational Therapist.

Benefits of AHA sessions

Our AHAs are supervised by certified practicing Speech Pathologists, Art Therapists and OTs, and undergo comprehensive training to ensure they are equipped to provide therapeutic services to clients of all ages across various practice areas. AHA services offer several key benefits, including:

  • Cost-effective solution to target goals.

  • Shorter waitlists, allowing clients to commence therapy without delays.

  • Flexible scheduling, offering a range of days and times for sessions.

  • Additional therapy sessions to facilitate continued learning and progress.

  • Access to AHA services in alignment with NDIS plans, making therapy more accessible.

How can an AHA help?

Allied Health Assistants offer a variety of low-cost supports, including:

  • Resource creation, such as developing low-tech Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) tools.

  • Assisting in group programs to enhance social and therapeutic outcomes.

  • Providing 1:1 therapy services to clients under the guidance and supervision of a speech pathologist or occupational therapist.

How can I access AHA services?

Suitability for 1:1 AHA therapy services is determined on a case-by-case basis. We offer two therapy service options:

  1. SHARED CARE
This option involves alternating sessions with an AHA and a Speech Pathologist or Occupational Therapist. This may be suitable when a client would benefit from more frequent intervention, but clinician availability or funding limitations prevent weekly sessions.

  2. AHA-DELIVERED THERAPY
This model involves a Speech Pathologist or Occupational Therapist developing and managing therapy sessions that are then delivered by an AHA. The process includes:

    • An initial session with the Speech Pathologist or Occupational Therapist to assess the client and determine therapy goals.

    • The development of a therapy plan, which is provided to the AHA, including demonstrations of any new activities.

    • The AHA delivering the therapy program in the clinic, at home/school visits, or via telehealth.

    • Documentation of progress, with regular communication with clients, parents, and carers about progress during sessions.

    • Ongoing involvement of the supervising Speech Pathologist or Occupational Therapist, who monitors progress, adjusts the therapy program as needed, and may request video recordings of the client participating in therapy to monitor progress.
